As our kitchen will be far beyond compact living, we are currently trying to figure out any possibly way to get more space. I think we have been able to find enough space for cupboards, because let's face it, being a 20-something couple that do not really cook fancy dinners; we don't need that much space. However, countertop space is different, and there is nothing that can drive me more crazy than not having anywhere to put things down in the kitchen because of lack of space. Enter the breakfast bar. In order to solve this problem as painlessly as possible, we have been looking to a solution with a breakfast bar that can be folded up towards the wall, hence not taking up any space at all when not used, something that is crucial in our tiny kitchen. However, I've fallen so madly in love with a brass breakfast bar (at the moment I'm thinking a permanent solution, no folding that it), and even though it is a bit out there, I think it would really make a great focal point in the kitchen.
